As Long As I’m Sitting Here…

…in the pharmacy drive-through, I’ll post an update. Peter has strep and an ear infection. That is all. Have a nice day.

Because I Haven’t Posted In Forever

You can always tell the quality of the blog post by the title. In this case I was torn between “I got nothin’” and the title I chose.

It’s a shame, too, since blogging has become so effortless with my new iPhone. And by effortless, I of course mean that I can blog lying across my bed while typing with one finger on a pretend keyboard that is approximately the size of my four-year-old’s pinky finger.

So maybe “effortless” is a stretch. But I digress. From writing about nothing – is that even possible?

If this seems a little disjointed, I have a excuse. Early this morning – around 5am I think – a storm rolled through that sent all the kids into our bed, eventually. To my surprise, Peter was the first one down. His window was probably the most exposed to the rain but he was seriously shaken. Matthew was next, but he was having a nosebleed and not all that worried about the storm. Then I walked into the kitchen and thought I found Samuel hiding under the table but he was actually just retrieving his slippers. I bought him some $5 slippers at Target and you would think they were made of silk the way the boy loves them. I personally think it’s the noise they make when he scuffs them across the floor, but whatever the case, they are a treasure to him.

Perhaps it was our early start to the day (which came right after a late night for me – isn’t it always the way it works out?) but I just can’t get motivated to do anything. Like change out of my pajamas, for instance. So here’s a few shots of what our morning has been, so far. Maybe after we get moving I’ll post again with all we’ve accomplished.

Or not.

We Are Swimming Fools!

So we have been consumed with swimming lessons lately. And by consumed I mean we’ve had 2 lessons. The pictures aren’t great since I can’t zoom in with this new camera phone and Mrs. Jenni has asked me to hide behind a hedge on her patio during the lessons.

I know what you’re thinking and no, that request was not due to some neurotic mom move on my part. It’s standard operating procedure for her.

So anyway, I have better pictures which I shot with my real camera (what else do I have to do for an hour except crouch behind her hedge and shoot pictures like I’m part of my children’s paparrazi?). However, since I got my iPhone, I find it increasingly difficult to work on my laptop since it requires me to sit at my desk and feel productive. So my good pics are still on my camera.

Not that you care. The truth is that I’m trying to fill space since I have no cute stories and marginal pics of aformentioned swimming lessons. So here’s all I have until the spirit moves me to download my good pics onto my laptop. And by the spirit, I obviously mean, my guilty conscience.

FX Family Worship

We’re here in what our church calls Center Stage having snowcones following the VBS wrap-up they called FX. Here are some pics:

VBS recap

Well, it’s over. That’s pretty much all I have to say about it.

No, it wasn’t really that bad. The drive was easier than I expected and the kids had so much fun, it made it all worthwhile. I’m just grumpy today, partly because I have a splitting headache and partly because we stayed up late watching one of the worst movies we’ve ever purchased on pay-per-view. I say worst because it was scary and sad and I hate scary, sad movies. The movie was “Knowing” with Nicholas Cage, and forgive me if you thought it was the best movie ever made. You’re entitled to your opinion but you’re wrong (joking – sort of).

So on to happier thoughts. Here are some pic I took the last few days. The blonde was our fearless leader. I think the rest are obvious.

VBS, day three (is it over yet?)

Remind me to tell you sometime about the interesting people I am working with this week. I would explain, but who knows who might read this…

So day three’s craft was making a mask. Here are some pics.

VBS, day two

Peter working crafts, the view from my VBS room, and some of the kids. I’ve heard the number 1500 tossed around regarding the total kids on campus this year but I don’t know if that’s official. We have over 100 first graders, a little less in second and still fewer in third, but I’ve heard preschool has first through sixth beat by a long shot. I’ll try to get some pics of the train and “donkeys” (really ponies) tomorrow.

VBS, day one

Oy vey. I had forgotten how much work this VBS stuff is. Lord help me. And how did I end up working with someone who is less organized than even I am???

But then, something always happens to remind me why I do what I do…in this case, it was this little face.

(In case you didn’t pick up on it right away, that is Matthew’s Indiana Jones’ dad costume.)

The Big One (almost)

Today is my birthday. I am now 39 and holding.

After church, Brad surprised me with lunch at El Fenix in downtown Dallas. It was really really yummy! And the best part was the company (see pics below).

When we got home, the boys began showering me with gifts from their candy buckets – lollipops, a jellybean, a tootsie roll. It was all so sweet – pun intended – until Matthew said “I was going to give you the Laffy Taffy but I just love them too much. So I gave you the jellybean instead.”

I had no response to that.

That’s not really true. I told him I loved the jellybean. Then I told myself that after he went to bed, I should go eat that Laffy Taffy.

No, not really. I’m just cracking myself up here. It is MY BIRTHDAY after all.

So, tomorrow it’s back to the grind. We’re spending our week driving back & forth to VBS at our church. Tonight I’m questioning my own sanity, but by this time tomorrow it won’t be a question anymore. I will be fully convinced that I am insane.

But at least I can blame it on my old age.
